Behavioral Expectations and Consequences CKLA expects students to conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner at all times and always show consideration for others. Students are also expected and encouraged to give their best possible effort in their schoolwork. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is the “GOLDEN RULE” at CKLA. Please and Thank you are words that are taught to be a very important part of a CKLA student’s vocabulary. THE FOLLOWING ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOURS ARE NOT TOLERATED AT CKLA: - The throwing of objects such as rocks, pencils, scissors, etc.;

- The use of indecent language

The following rules must be observed at all times: - Respect the property of others;

CONSEQUENCES OF NON-COMPLIANCE In order to maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to learning, we appreciate the support of students and parents in observing the above guidelines. In the event that a student persists in disruptive behavior or will not respond to discussions regarding his conduct, we will proceed with the following disciplinary matters: - The teacher will talk with the parent;
- If no improvement results from the discussions, the principal will contact the parent;
- If the student continues to ignore these rules, suspension or expulsion may occur.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT MEASURES - Parent, Principal and Teacher Conference: The teacher, principal and parents meet to resolve student’s behaviour.
- Detention- This action is taken in cases of repeated misbehaviour or regularly incomplete class work, homework, or seatwork. Parents will be notified at least 24 hours before if their child is to serve detention.
- Suspension- This action is taken at the discretion of the Principal or Director in the event that a student repeatedly defies school rules or engages in any anti-social behaviour that was outlined above.
- Expulsion- The school reserves the right to ask parents to withdraw their child permanently from the school in the event of repeated disruptive or harmful behaviour.
GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE The purpose of the following procedure is to allow for easy communication and the prompt resolution of problems or grievances that may arise. Grievance will be dealt with at the lowest level first, before being considered at higher levels. Prompt response will be provided at each level. Any grievance: - Should first be taken up orally with the student's teacher.
- If not resolved the grievance should be communicated in writing by the parent/guardian to the teacher . The teacher will then respond within 5 working days.
- If the matter is not resolved within the above time period, then the Parent/ Guardian should communicate it in writing addressed to the Principal.
- The Principal will then present the matter before the board. A written response will be given with Ten days.
- If the matter is still unresolved the Board of Directors, Principal and Parent/Guardian will schedule a meeting at which time the matter will be resolved.
By following such agreed procedures, early resolution of grievances can be dealt with in an orderly and timely fashion. |
